przez
because of / by / through
  • by: Eg. "He was attacked by a dog" → On został zaatakowany przez psa.

Question: In the following translation, why is został needed
Answer: Polish has two different auxiliary verbs for the passive voice depending on the nature of the action:
Zostać (past tense masculine: został) – Used for perfective (completed) actions.
Być (past tense masculine: był) – Used for imperfective (ongoing, habitual, or state-of-being) actions.
Because the dog attack is a specific, completed event that happened in the past, you must use został.
    - To see why został is specifically needed, look at how the meaning changes if you swap it for był:
On został zaatakowany przez psa. → He was attacked by a dog.
On był zaatakowany przez psa. → He was (in a state of having been) attacked by a dog.

  • because of: Eg. "I didn't go to the party because of him" → Nie poszedłem na imprezę przez niego.

  • według kogoś: According to somebody.
Eg: Według mojej mamy jestem dilerem narkotyków. meaning "According to my mom, I'm a drug dealer."
własne
- self, of its own
- It can be combined with other words to form phrases like "of your own", "of my own", etc
- [2 hrs later] This is an entire thing. Link to Gemini Chat.
- The difference between "swój własny" and "mój własny" comes down to whether the owner of the object is also the subject performing the action in the sentence. Both phrases can translate to "my own" in English, but Polish uses a special reflexive pronoun (swój) to point back to the subject of the sentence. The word własny acts as an intensifier for both.
- In short, If you are doing something with your own things, use swój własny. If someone or something else is interacting with your things, use mój własny.
też

to learn
(Source) Note about: uczyć się vs. nauczyć się. uczyć is an imperfective verb. it basically implies that you're in the process of learning (or teaching if it's not reflexive), that it's a currently processing, unfinished action. nauczyć is perfective, so it refers to the same action except that it's already finished - you have already learnt/taught the thing. That's why it's not used in a simple present tense, that would be like saying "I am having learnt".
Examples:
"Uczę się angielskiego" — I'm learning/studying English.
"Nauczyłam się tego dawno" — I've learnt that a long time ago
"Uczę w szkole podstawowej" — I teach at an elementary school
"Nauczyłam go kilka angielskich zdań" — I've taught him a few English phrases
All in all, this is a very important grammatical aspect (literally) of Slavic languages
